OUR HISTORY
Antioch Baptist Church has a long and wonderful history. The church was founded in 1874 on the original church property located in Atlanta. Antioch spent 120 years serving the Lord in that location. God blessed and many souls came to Christ there.
Several notable men served as pastor of Antioch over the years. One man of note was Hershel Ford. He became a well known author and leader in the Southern Baptist Convention. Another great man of God was Pastor Durwood Williams. He pastored Antioch during much of the 50’s and 60’s. During his pastorate, attendance swelled to 550 in Sunday School. Numerous souls were saved during that time. Pastor Williams also began taking the church on a course toward independence from the Southern Baptist Convention.
In 1994, under the leadership of Pastor Layton Sampson, Antioch moved to the current location in the city of Jonesboro. For the last 26 years, Antioch has been preaching the Gospel in the Jonesboro community. God has given our church a wonderful past, but we believe that He has even greater things in store for the future. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” We are looking to our Lord for the blessings we seek and give Him all the glory and praise.
